CNA and LNA Certification in Arizona

CNA certification by endorsement means that you have graduated from an approved nursing assistant program, taken the state nursing assistant exam, and have been granted CNA certification in another state. To apply for CNA certification in Arizona, you must complete the CNA Endorsement application.

After over 20 years of regulating Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), the Arizona State Board of Nursing (Board) is introducing two levels of nursing assistants:

  1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): This individual has completed an approved CNA course, passed the state manual skills and written exams, and is listed on the CNA registry. Any substantiated allegations of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property/theft will be reported to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and listed on the registry.
  2. Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA): This individual meets the CNA educational and exam requirements and submits an application, fingerprints, and fees to the Board. The board regulates the LNA and has broader jurisdiction over any acts of unprofessional conduct.
